On a Winning Streak

On a winning streak at the Vaal Classic, Tuesday saw commendable performances from our runners, with Viva Spirit and Nettleton coming out on top.

Viva Spirit, in a show of maturing strength and agility, clinched a close finish win in race 4 the WWW.TAB4RACING.COM MR 84 HANDICAP. Gavin Lerena’s skilled handling aided, and the smart draw played a crucial role in guiding this promising young horse to his victory. Congratulations to owners J F & L M F Wernars, C Gordon, R M Sewgoolam, and L W & N J Evered-Hall, who must be thrilled to see their investment pay dividends. Credit is also due to Lammerskraal Stud where Viva Spirit was bred.

The day ended on another high note as Nettleton our most fancied runner on the day, brought home a flying victory in the last race. Also under the masterful guidance of Lerena, Nettleton edged out the competition right on the line to win by a nose. A big congrats go to owners Messrs J F & L M F Wernars & Mrs T J Wernars. Nettleton, also bred by Mr L M F Wernars, is truly proving to be a decent filly.

One cannot fail to mention Karangetang who once again showcased an improved performance in race 8 the RACEHORSE OWNERS ASSOCIATION MIDDLE STAKES, to finish 2nd carrying 62 kg also beating stable mate Moonshiningthrough who was finishing strong. Also, another strong contender in race 6, Mizzen Sail, with a good second-place finish in her 1st run after the maiden ranks saw her upturning the previous form on some horses.

Tuesday’s meeting also marked a significant personal achievement for jockey Gavin Lerena, who capped off 4 wins in 4 days for our team. Onwards we go, looking forward to witnessing more stellar performances from all the carded runners on World Sports Betting Cape Town Met Day on Saturday 27th January 2024.
