BARBARESCO’s comeback run

BARBARESCO’s comeback run

The sport of kings never faces a dull moment, and the performance of BARBARESCO in the recent BETWAY GOT THE GREENLIGHT STAKES (Grade 3) stands as a compelling testament to this.

Running a distance of 1400m, BARBARESCO under Gavin Lerena galloped his way from the back of the field to a 2nd place finish behind Main Defender, showcasing his promise as he made his comeback run after a short break of 2 months. This race, however, wasn’t just another run for him; it marked his first appearance as a Gelding, adding an extra layer of anticipation and intrigue to his performance.

An investment worth every penny, BARBARESCO was bought for a hefty amount of R1,400,000 during the National Yearling Sale 2022. His breeder and also share owner, Mr Wernars, no doubt, takes some pride in this gutsy performance.

He has now taken on both the fierce Highveld rivals MAIN DEFENDER & SANDRINGHAM SUMMIT and come in close 2nds. This must have sparked an interesting question among racing fans: how would BARBARESCO fare if he races against both of these top horses together? Could he finally beat them both? With his amazing turn of foot, he’s definitely generating much curiosity. We can’t wait to see what will happen if these three ever share the racing track!

Surely, his journey has just begun!
