Weekly Round-Up: The First Week of December in Review

Greetings from the stables! We’re delighted to share with you some highlights from the first week of December, leaving us still feeling proud and kind of fulfilled.

Kicking off the week on Tuesday 5th December at Turffontein was LOVEGRASS (by Gimmethegreenlight x Eros’s Girl), who marked his debut with a fantastic win during the second race. Lovegrass’s win was a testament to the hard work of our fantastic team at JVV Racing and an excellent ride from Gavin Lerena. Congratulations to the winning owners J F & L M F Wernars & Mrs T J Wernars, and a special mention goes to Mr P F Carolin, who bred this future star.

The excitement continued as we moved to the Vaal on 7th December for the seventh race, where COSMIC STAR (proudly by Erupt x Cosmic Light) bagged a win in the penultimate race of the day. Once again, jockey Gavin Lerena teamed up to lead us to victory, accomplishing a splendid strike rate. We want to extend our congratulations to the proud owners J F & L M F Wernars, Jagessar Limited & Maine Chance Farms, and the winning breeders, Maine Chance Farms.

This week also saw many of our runners put forward commendable performances, capturing several noteworthy places. Every win, big or small, reflects the unyielding commitment and matchless dedication of our team.

As we carried on with the excitement, Saturday brought a thrilling end with a nail-biting finish at the WSB Grand Heritage Grooms race 2023. Not only was the action on the track intense, but the handsome prize breakdown also added to the anticipation, with R10000 going to the first place, R4000 to the second, R2000 to the third, and R1000 to the fourth place. Every other participant received a balance of R700 each as a token of their hard work and dedication.
